PESSPA at the Heart of School Life Film |
The Association for Physical Education has produced a film, aimed at the primary sector, that advocates and evidences the contribution Physical Education, School Sport and Physical Activity (PESSPA) make to whole school improvement. The resource is not about exemplifying outstanding teaching and learning; its aim is to provide you with an example of a school in which Physical Education is deemed to be just as important as the other core subjects. School Sport and Physical Activity
are not curriculum subjects but together with Physical Education they are firmly placed at the heart of the school and the results speak for themselves. In terms of attainment across the curriculum there is a positive trajectory year on year and
there is no doubt that the impact that Physical Education, School Sport and Physical Activity have on the pupils is quite remarkable!
Before using the film it is important that you familiarise yourself with its content and then you can select the appropriate excerpts that support you when advocating the need to ensure high quality Physical Education is at the heart of school life. School
Sport and Physical Activity emanate from high quality Physical Education and become embedded in the ethos of the school.
The film demonstrates:
N.B. It is important to note that none of the people, including pupils, in this film were coached or their views edited. They were confident enough to invite us into the school to see exactly how they all valued PESSPA. It was a
privilege to experience such commitment to ensuring that all pupils can achieve their maximum potential and the contribution PESSPA make.
