PE & Sport Premium Monitoring and Tracking 2025/26

This page and downloadable content supports schools in planning, monitoring, and evaluating their PE and sport premium funding. It is aligned with DfE reporting requirements and includes sections for review, aims, planning, and evaluation.

The template is designed as a live working document. Schools can update it throughout the year to reflect spending decisions, progress, and impact. All spending must meet the Department for Education’s conditions of grant and should provide additional, sustainable improvements to PE, sport, and physical activity (PESSPA) provision.

Before deciding how to use the funding this academic year, schools should reflect on their use of the PE and sport premium in 2024/25, evaluating both successes and areas for improvement. This review should inform priorities and decisions for 2025/26.

Review of the Last Academic Year (2024/25)

Schools should reflect on the intent, implementation, and impact of PE and sport premium spending during the previous year. Consider both successes and challenges, and record supporting evidence.

Swimming and Water Safety

  • Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres

  • Use a range of strokes effectively (e.g. front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke)

  • Perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations

Key Areas

  1. Increasing staff confidence, knowledge and skills in teaching PE and sport (CPD and training)

  2. Increasing pupil engagement in regular physical activity and sporting opportunities

  3. Raising the profile of PE and sport across the school to support whole school improvement

  4. Offering a broader and more equal experience of a range of sports and physical activities, ensuring equal access for boys and girls

  5. Increasing participation in competitive sport

When completing this section, schools should highlight impact on key groups such as SEND pupils, girls, and disadvantaged pupils.

Aims for 2025/26

Using whole school priorities, the school development plan, and previous PESSPA data, schools should set out their aims for the year ahead.

Aims should identify:

  • What the objective is

  • Why it is important

  • Which of the five key areas it supports

  • Any supporting evidence

Schools should also set swimming and water safety targets for the year ahead.

Plan, Monitor, and Evaluate (2025/26)

This section should be used as a live, working document throughout the year. Schools should record:

  • Intent (Objective): What you want to achieve

  • Implementation: How you will achieve it

  • Impact: What you hope to see as a result

  • Supporting Evidence: Data or qualitative evidence

Evaluation should capture:

  • The impact seen

  • Whether improvements are sustainable and how

  • Evidence to demonstrate outcomes

  • Approximate cost

Example focus areas could include developing lunchtime play provision, increasing pupil leadership, CPD for staff, or targeted support for groups such as girls, SEND pupils, and disadvantaged pupils.

Spending Tracker Document (2025/26)

A separate spending tracking Excel document is provided alongside this form. Schools should use this tool to record expenditure throughout the academic year. The tracker is designed to support accurate monitoring of how PE and sport premium funding is allocated, ensure spending decisions remain aligned with priorities, and provide evidence for the statutory reporting return. It should be updated regularly and used in conjunction with this monitoring and tracking form to create a complete record of intent, implementation, impact, and expenditure.
