A newly updated Inclusive PE (IPE) training course, released on the Activity Alliance Learning Hub, will empower teachers and Teaching Assistants to deliver inclusive and meaningful PE.

The course consists of ten short modules for anyone who delivers PE and school sport within education settings. The content has been redeveloped with the support of Leeds Beckett University, informed by their own insight and a working group of teachers, teaching assistants and education professionals.

There are 1.5 million disabled children in the UK, 15% of the school population. Just a quarter of them say they regularly take part in sport at school. In a recent open letter, as part of the Equal Play campaign, ParalympicsGB called on the Government to empower teachers with the right tools, understanding and resources to deliver truly inclusive PE. The newly updated IPE eLearning course is designed to do just that.

Chloe Studley, Programmes Manager (Workforce) at Activity Alliance led the project. She said:

"IPE is designed to provide a high-quality PE curriculum for all young people by increasing teachers’ knowledge and confidence to deliver inclusive PE.
"There can be a nervousness about delivering PE for disabled children, with far too many being left to watch on the sidelines as their classmates enjoy the benefits of being active.
"This course is a brilliant way to develop knowledge quickly, with handy top tips throughout. It’s a truly exciting addition to our Learning Hub, one that we hope will ensure every child gets the chance to enjoy inclusive PE throughout their school years."
