afPE welcomes new government and emphasises importance of transformational physical education

Commenting on the historic election result, Sue Wilkinson MBE, afPE's CEO said:

"I would like to extend my congratulations to Sir Keir Starmer and to the Labour Party on forming our next government. As we all know, the Government is facing a range of challenges and we are looking forward to finding out more about the shape of the Ministerial teams that will drive forward the Government's agenda. I don't underestimate just how much the Government will have to deal with, but we will be working hard to make sure that the role of high quality PE, for every child, in every school is fully understood. As ever with such a big change, we do need to wait for a bit more detail to emerge and of course to allow new Ministers to establish themselves, but we look forward to building on our existing relationships and making many new ones and to doing all that we can to celebrate the contribution of PE and to drive up standards, enabling our workforce to be the best it can be. We are particularly looking forward to the opportunity to input to a comprehensive review of the National Curriculum and to continuing to promote the recommendations of our PE Taskforce".
