After
seven and half years as Chief Executive officer of the Association
(afPE), Sue Wilkinson, MBE will be leaving afPE this year. Sue is one of
the best known and highly respected figures within the PE community and
has made an enormous contribution to afPE, to shaping public policy in
this area over many years and in supporting and representing the PE
profession. Sue will continue as CEO until a successor can be appointed,
which is likely to be at some time later in the year.
Sue Wilkinson said: "It has been the very greatest privilege of my
career to lead afPE. I am immensely proud of all that we have achieved
over many years working together and am more convinced now than ever of
the essential need for transformational PE in every school and the
rights of every young person to benefit from this. I would like to take
this opportunity to thank all of my colleagues and the Board for their
support and guidance. I have been extremely fortunate to be able to work
with outstanding professionals, gifted mentors and passionate
colleagues. There is a lot to do before a possible election later this
year and so I am looking forward to seeing many of you in the coming
months and as we prepare to make sure PE is in the minds of our
politicians."
Professor Jeanne Keay, Chair of afPE said: "Sue is one of the most
instantly recognisable and influential figures within PE and has brought
immense commitment, energy and knowledge as our CEO. She has
transformed afPE as an organisation during her time here and should be
very proud of everything she has achieved. We are all going to miss Sue
enormously and she is going to be a tough act to follow, but on a
personal level I am delighted for Sue to be able to spend more time with
her family and to be able to explore new opportunities."
