The PE and sport premium is funding allocated to primary schools that must be used to:
- make additional and sustainable improvements to the existing PE, sport and physical activity offer available in the school
- build capacity and capability in the school and make sure that
improvements made to the quality of PE, sport and physical activity
provision now are sustainable and will benefit pupils joining the school
in future
This monitoring tool, produced in partnership with the
Department for Education (DfE) and the Local Government Association
(LGA), sets out areas of focus for governing boards evaluating PE and
sport premium spending decisions.
The tool covers:
areas where schools should prioritise PE and sport premium spending
the role of staff CPD in securing sustainable improvements
questions to ask when evaluating the impact of spending
Do we know any further information with the regards to the digital tool and when schools will find out more please? I know they have said May/June? Thanks
A great question thank you for posting. It is important that there is clear and concise information. The DfE has offered to speak to members as shared at the afPE Development Day in December and at the March 6th Parliament Event. If there you have a question and or an enquiry please email the DfE and Francesca and or Steve we are sure will respond. afPE will also ask the question.

Do we know which schools / boroughs are going to be SAMPLED for 2023-24 academic year given that this directive is not going to be made statutory to ALL infant; junior and primary establishments until 2024-25 academic year? Thank you in advance.
