On Monday 25th March Scope published the Playground Accessibility Map.

You can use the Playground Accessibility Map to:

  • - Find out where your nearest accessible playground is
  • - Show local decision makers why they should create more inclusive playgrounds
  • - Discover how accessible and inclusive playgrounds across the country are

This map is part of our Let’s Play Fair campaign, which has been calling for local authorities to work with families to create inclusive and accessible playgrounds. We also have produced the Playground Accessibility Report, which is attached and also available on our website. This breaks down some of the most common features across playgrounds that make them inclusive or inaccessible. It also provides regional breakdowns.

The Play Investigation

The interactive Map is the result of our 2023 Play Investigation. Scope supporters investigated over 1,000 playgrounds across the country to create it.

The Play Investigation found that only 1 in 10 playgrounds are inclusive for disabled children.

Play helps children explore and understand their world. Accessible playgrounds show children that an inclusive world is possible.

National and local government must work with families, campaigners and charities using tools like this Map. And design more playgrounds with disabled children in mind.
