Safe Practice in Physical Education, School Sport and Physical Activity - 2024 Photo Competition
30 November 2023
The Association for Physical Education (afPE) is launching a photo competition to illustrate good practice in Physical Education, School Sport and Physical Activity (PESSPA).
Good practice equals safe practice and for the 2024 edition of 'Safe Practice in Physical Education, School Sport and Physical Activity' we intend to incorporate photos from all sectors (EYFS, Primary, Secondary and Special Schools and FE Colleges) to illustrate all areas of PESSPA. If you would like to enter and have your school students, staff or both showcased in the 2024 edition, please send up to 3 photos considering the following points before submission. - All photos of students must have parental permission for publication. We do not need to see a copy of this but contributors should confirm, in an email to enquiries@afpe.org.uk that they do have this permission.
- Photos should be sent as separate attachments - as JPG or PNG files - not embedded in Word documents.
- For print quality, photos should be at least 300dpi (at least 1mb).
- Please provide details of the photographer's name if the photo needs to be accredited. (Generally photos are not accredited but, occasionally, a contributor wishes to acknowledge the source, for example, the work of a student.)
- While recognising the 'live' nature of contributors' photos, afPE is keen to ensure photos that appear in Safe Practice in Physical Education, School Sport and Physical Activity' reflect good practice, therefore, in terms of health and safety messages, please try to avoid photos that include:
- young people wearing jewellery and watches during PE and sport sessions - young people with long hair participating without it being tied back - young people wearing hoodies whilst playing invasion/contact games - young people wearing socks (instead of bare feet/shoes) for PE - inappropriate footwear or shoes that are not fastened/have untied laces - young people using inappropriate equipment (e.g. young children using equipment designed for adults). NB. We can air-brush over small items (e.g. remove earrings) if necessary. Please only email up to 3 photos to enquiries@afpe.org.uk by 21st December 2023. The successful photo applicants will receieve a free annual afPE membership, including a copy of the new Safe Practice edition.
We look forward to receiving a wide selection of photos exemplifying the great practice that exists in Physical Education, School Sport and Physical Activity in the country.
Thank you. The afPE Health and Safety Team
