03 July 2023
On Monday 3rd June, Jan Hickman and Lesley Doughty presented a webinar on the key findings from the Sport England Secondary Teacher Training programme (SETT) programme and showcased ideas of how to replicate the process by sharing worked examples from some of the projects. Sharing the findings of the Sport England Secondary Teacher Training programme 13.5million of National Lottery funding was provided by Sport England to 2548 secondary schools in England between 2018-2022 to help create a culture where pupils’ enjoyment was at the heart of the physical education, physical activity and school sport offer. The aims of the SETT programme were to: - Meet the needs of all children, irrespective of their level of sporting ability, and involve them in shaping the sporting opportunities provided
- Provide a greater breadth of sport and physical activity which should lead to better preparation for a positive future relationship with sport and physical activity
- Support teachers to have more focus on helping children and young people feel capable and confident in their abilities
- Improve the confidence and attitude in teachers to encourage children and young people to be physically active
- Reduce the number of children and young people perceived to have a poor experience of PE and sport in school
- Develop the status of physical activity throughout the school. This webinar will inform delegates of the key findings from the SETT programme and give them ideas of how to replicate the process by sharing worked examples from some of the projects.
