The Trustees will invite nominations for appointment to the Board prior to the Annual General Meeting in July. The Board is looking to broaden the overall skills base in the areas of current school involvement, HE and/or FE experience, marketing, IT, business experience/income generation, HRR, legal expertise and charity work.
Why not think about joining the Board from 2016? The election process will begin with an advertisement to members in March or April with results announced at the AGM on 6th July 2016.
Terms of office are set by the rules for election that exist at the time of someone’s election or re-election. Currently the rule allows an initial term of three years. Immediate re-election can be sought for a further three years if the trustee wishes before a mandatory one year gap must be taken before being able to seek election for any further period of office. If the rule changes during a term of office you are not affected. If the rule should be changed at the time you seek election or re-election the new rule would apply and any previous rule would no longer apply. This could affect following terms of office according to the new rule.
Go on. Think about it. Seek nomination and as you give something to the Association you will help afPE develop, improve and progress. You will also develop your management, governance and strategic planning skills to help your career as well as gain valuable experience with a wider understanding of how physical education and school sport evolve at national level.
The Board meets five or six times a year mid-week and there could be occasional additional work if you joined a short term working group. Generally, other information and opinion exchanges are by e-mail. Most trustees act as a link between the Board and a region and home country. This helps shape the organisation of the Association in order to give and receive information to and from the membership.
So, April 2016 – look for the notice about nominations. Your colleague Board members look forward to hearing from you. If you would like further information then why not contact the Association office in the first instance at enquiries@afpe.org.uk to find out more.
