London Borough of Bromley – Primary PE Conference 2016
01 February 2016
afPE is delighted to be supporting the London Borough of Bromley’s Regional Primary Physical Education Conference 2016. Date & Venue: Friday, 18th March 2016 at The Widmore Centre, Nightingale Lane, Bromley, BR1 2SQ. With the Primary PE & Sports Premium funding now enjoying its third year, both DfE and Ofsted continue to raise standards of expectation related to the strategy in terms of impact and sustainability, as evidenced by the following examples: ‘The impact of spending of extra sports funding has not been evaluated sharply enough. Teachers do not have sufficient expertise to develop the pupils’ skills or promote more healthy lifestyles.’ ‘The additional funding provided for sport and physical education has not been used effectively. Leaders, including governors, have not recorded or checked how it has been used. This means it is not clear how successful the funding has been in improving pupils’ physical well-being.’ Enhanced inspectorate scrutiny has evidently focused a keener eye upon senior management response; staff professional development; and quality of teaching and learning so as to ensure that both short and long term published benefits are acutely felt. At a time when both education and health national agendas continue to increasingly converge upon the proven merits of active healthy lifestyles within our schools; there has never been a better opportunity to take stock of current PESS Premium provision and identify key ideas and strategies for securing even greater success. The Premium funding should be employed by way of audited and recognized additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE provision made currently available, with the DfE’s vision statement ringing at the heart of all decision-making: ‘All pupils leaving primary school physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport’. With a key indicator and all important cornerstone being to use ‘the Primary PE & Sports Premium as a whole school improvement tool’, so as to realise full potential of the strategy, this conference is a must-attend event.
