Annual Physical Education ITTE Network Conference 2016

23 February 2016

The ‘Annual PE Initial Teacher Training and Education (ITTE) Network Conference’ takes place on Thursday 17th March, 2016 at the University of Wolverhampton Science Park.

The theme is ‘Partnership in the provision of PE initial and continuing teacher education’ and we have an exceptional group of conference speakers leading a variety of workshops/presentations related to this theme of partnership (or relationship between two or more individuals or organisations working together) in PE initial and continuing teacher education.

We have topics which will be of interest to all university-led and school-led primary and secondary undergraduate and postgraduate PE ITTE providers in some way, shape or form.

Dr Jo Harris, from Loughborough University, will critically discuss the issues surrounding the National ITT PE Recruitment 2016-2017 debacle and the best way forward. We know the importance of research and theory informing our thinking and practice (as well as our trainees); a number of colleagues will share some exciting collaborative research projects on PE teaching and learning-related themes.

Vicky Randall (University of Winchester), Anita Richardson (Birmingham City University) and Sarah Adams (University of Roehampton) will discuss their research into key factors affecting the development of the next generation of teachers in primary PE and consider the strength of partnership in influencing policy and sharing practice at a professional level.

Professor Nick Draper (University of Derby) will look at how two national associations, BASES (British Association for Sport & Exercise Sciences) and afPE, might work together starting with the things that both have in common: ‘PE, physical activity and health’.

Vanessa King, from Alverstoke CE Junior School (Hampshire), will share with us a comprehensive library of well over 300 videos from Year R to Year 6 demonstrating key skills used in the PE curriculum to optimize pupil learning. This library resource will also provide a very cost effective way of providing CPD for primary teachers to improve their subject knowledge and confidence in PE. We will also hear from Sue Wilkinson (afPE Strategic Lead) about the latest developments in PE and school sport nationally (see our ‘Final Conference Programme’ for further details of topics & speakers). So, please come to the conference – it will be great to see you – and spread the word to your university and school colleagues/partners involved in PE ITTE.

Conference Fees:

  • £100.00 – afPE Members
  • £145.00 – Non afPE Members
