Drowning Prevention Week is a fun and educational way to help your pupils to enjoy the water safely this summer.
Around 400 people, including children of all ages, needlessly die from drowning in the UK every year. June is a critical time to remind everybody of the importance of being safe around water, as children prepare to launch themselves into the school summer holidays, and everyone plans to take some time enjoying the summer, often by water of some description from paddling pools to the beach.
The Royal Life Saving Society UK, the drowning prevention charity, has produced a wide range of new resources to support Primary and Secondary Schools in delivering key water safety messages during Drowning Prevention Week and before the school summer holidays.
The new school resources are divided into a Primary School and a Secondary School pack. Each pack includes indoor and outdoor lesson plans suitable for all ages, with differentiated learning outcomes. The lesson plans also include a mixture of teacher-led, student-led, and fully interactive lessons and activities.
