The Progress 8 measure is a new secondary school accountability system. It aims to encourage schools to teach a broad curriculum and reward schools that teach all pupils well. It will measure pupils’ progress across 8 subjects from age 11 to 16. The ‘Progress 8 measure in 2016, 2017 and 2018’ document sets out how we’ll calculate the Progress 8 school performance measure in 2016, and changes that will apply from 2017. The ‘Progress 8 early opt-in: terms and conditions for schools’ document explains the process schools opting in early must follow. There is a list of schools that have opted in early. More details about the Progress 8 measure are available in the government response to the consultation on changes to the way secondary school performance is measured.
