Angela James – RIP
10 January 2017
10/01/17 afPE is extremely sad to report that Angela James passed away following a short battle with cancer, early this morning. Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this difficult time. She will be sorely missed. The consummate professional, with a heart of pure gold. Angela was afPE’s Health & Safety Officer, as well as being the co-author of Safe Practice and the Chair of the afPE Heart of England Region. Sue Wilkinson MBE, afPE’s CEO said: “Angela was an outstanding physical educationalist. The Association benefited from her contribution to several aspects of its work. Whilst Angela was a local authority PE advisor she served on the Association’s health and safety committee, was an active member of the region and contributed to delivering workshops at the National conference. In later years Angela became afPE’s health and safety officer, Chair of the Heart of England region, co-author of the extremely successful This Girl Can school resources, and co-author of Safe Practice 2016. In my role as the consultants’ line manager Angela was always the ultimate professional extremely well organised and delivered to a high standard. She had a. terrific sense of humour was extremely positive and always determined to find solutions to any challenges. Her family, friends and colleagues should be very proud of everything that she had achieved. Thank you. Rest in peace Angela.” Mike Crichton, afPE’s Chair said: “Friends, colleagues and members of the Association for Physical Education (afPE). On Tuesday we were informed of the devastating news that Angela James had passed away following a short battle with cancer. I know this shocked us all and our immediate thoughts and prayers are with Angela’s family and friends. Angela was a true professional and passionate about the importance of PE, physical activity and the health and well-being of children, young people and adults. As we all know Angela was the afPE Health & Safety Officer and co-authored the best-selling and latest edition of Safe Practice in Physical Education, School Sport and Physical Activity. She was also the Chair of the Heart of England Region. She was a perfectionist and carried out her work with precision, rigour, sensitivity, fairness and respect. Rest in peace Angela. You will be greatly missed but never forgotten.”
