The Association for Physical Education (afPE) is inviting applications from both members and non-members to join the Board of Trustees.

afPE is a charitable company, a membership organisation and the Subject Association for physical education in the United Kingdom. We are the voice of PE and our vision is to support the workforce to put physical education at the heart of school life. We are proud to have recently launched our new strategy and we are now seeking to expand our Board to support the growth of the organisation.

The Board of Trustees is responsible for the continued development of the Association. This involves determining strategy, policies and the ongoing vision for the organisation as well as securing financial investment and ensuring all legal and contractual obligations are met. The Board is a combination of members of the Association who work within the physical education, sport and physical activity sector and non-members who provide a range of professional knowledge, skills and experience.

Tenure of post is usually for three years which may be followed by up to two further three year terms. Co-option for one year initially may be considered in particular circumstances.

Trustee roles are voluntary, with travel expenses for meetings and events reimbursed.

At this time, expertise is particularly sought in any of the following areas:

  • Physical education, school sport and physical activity
  • Finance
  • Income generation, sponsorship and marketing
  • Equity, diversity and inclusion

If you feel you have the required skills, attributes and capacity to contribute to the continued growth of the organisation, please return a copy of your CV along with a covering letter detailing your suitability to the role and needs of the Board to Simon Leach, afPE Membership Manager, at simon.leach@afpe.org.uk by 5pm on 16th February 2023.

Applicants selected for further consideration will be invited for interview in March, date TBC.

Come and join us in making our Association even more effective for members, the profession and children and young people in education.

For an informal discussion about this opportunity, please contact Professor Jeanne Keay, Chair of afPE (jeannekeay@me.com)
