DfE announce Primary PE and sport premium deadline extension

The Department for Education (DfE) will be contacting primary schools today to let them know that they have extended the 31st March deadline for spending the Primary PE and sport premium funding that was carried forward from the 2019/20 academic year.

Schools will now have until the end of this (2020/21) academic year to spend the carried forward funding (in full), in line with the deadline for spending this year’s Primary PE and sport premium allocation.

afPE is pleased to hear that the Department for Education has contacted all schools today in receipt of the Primary PE and sport premium, to confirm that the March 2021 reporting deadline for the 2019/20 funding, has been extended.

 

We know schools will welcome this news and those with an under-spend can plan how to use the funding to effect change that will make a sustainable difference during the next few months. Now more than ever children and young people (C&YP) should feel safe, secure and confident; their physical, social and emotional wellbeing should be at the forefront of the reactivation of face to face learning. PESSPA will be key in making a difference to ensuring C&YP thrive in school and coupled with the current academic year funding, this extension could be a great help.

 

Now that schools have re-opened fully we hope that they will be able to review the needs of their pupils and plan their remaining spend, to have the greatest impact.
