afPE 2018 Awards

09/07/18 The afPE 2018 Awards (sponsored by Warwick Printing) were presented at the National Conference in Burton on Trent. The award winners were as follows: Professional Practice Award (awarded for making a difference at local level (For example in a school, HEI, LA, CSP):Terry Graves A summary of Terry’s contribution: - Terry secured PE as a core subject at Greneway school
- PE drives positive health and well-being across the school
- This influence has spread to the other schools in Royston and they now also have PE at the heart of school life and school development
- Terry’s passion, commitment, leadership and professionalism result in colleagues giving him the nickname of ‘PE Passionista’
Hannah Vecchione A summary of Hannah’s contribution: - For over 16 years been a very valuable member of Manchester tutor team, and is now responsible for PE Professional Learning across the city
- Hannah has developed non specialist teachers to teach quality PE
- Due to Hannah’s dedication, vision, high expectations, the standard of PE within Primary schools across Manchester is recognised nationally good/outstanding
- Hannah is extremely, diligent and passionate and PE it is at the heart of all she does
Honoured Member Award (awarded for making a difference at national and/or international level over a lengthy and sustained period of time):Dr Gary Stidder A summary of Gary’s contribution: - Gary’s commitment to and achievements in physical education over the years are remarkable
- His research has had national and international impact
- Inclusion in PE – For the past twenty years, Gary has taken overall responsibility for managing and facilitating major sporting events for over 600 pupils with severe, profound and multiple learning difficulties
- Gary has organised and led a series of training programmes based on the training methodology which has evolved though the University’s flagship ‘Football for Peace International’ programme
Award for Level 5/6 Professional Learning Centre of the Year:TS Education Services A summary of the contribution made: - Through their Centre Course Manager, TSES links heavily with Hampshire County Council to provide a strong and committed local strategic influence, offering a range of Primary PE CPD opportunities to support the level 5/6 qualifications and the provision of high quality PE across Hampshire
- The Centre has a compliant and robust internal verification process in place to meet the assessment criteria and provide written feedback to delegates
- They have successfully registered 121 delegates to gain the level 5/6 qualifications science 2015
- They are also now linking with SGOs in Kent to embed the level 5/6 qualifications across primary schools in the county
Special Award for an Outstanding School in Physical Education, Sport & Physical Activity:Sandal Castle VA Community Primary School A summary of the contribution made: - Physical Education, Sport and Physical Activity are firmly embedded at the heart of school life
- The difference that this school makes to the lives of its pupils is quite remarkable
- Physical Education in the school is expertly led and managed by the subject leader
- Leadership of the Head Teacher is exceptional – she firmly believes that Physical Education, Sport and Physical Activity are the main drivers in raising standards
afPE 2018 Poster Presentation Winner (sponsored by Howden):Loughborough University For their poster entitled: ‘Lessons to be learned: Care experienced young people’s perspectives of PEPAYS’ Special Award for Outstanding Commitment & High Quality Service:Inspired Exchange A summary of the contribution made: - Inspired Exchange have managed afPE’s National Conferences for 18 years and provided phenomenal commitment to the Association
- A professional, knowledgeable and dedicated team with excellent leadership
- Going above and beyond the call of duty to ensure the smooth administration of our conference
- Loyalty and respect for the Association and its members
- Knowledgeable and telepathic and all executed with great humour!
