Sue Wilkinson MBE, afPE’s CEO said:

"afPE is pleased that following consultation, revised guidance for the effective use of the Primary PE and Sport Premium, has been published by the Department for Education. As the only subject Association for the sector, we are delighted that the emphasis remains on the ring fenced funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of Physical Education, Sport and Physical Activity."

"PE taught well and placed at the heart of school life, improves not only school sport and physical activity but impacts significantly on children’s emotional well-being. All of these areas are pieces of a jigsaw that create a whole picture that should contribute to the very best outcomes for children and young people."

"It is absolutely vital that schools build capacity and capability to ensure that improvements made now will benefit pupils joining school in future years. The workforce is the fundamental bedrock in inspiring pupils and we must value and invest in colleagues, to ensure that we develop outstanding opportunities for all children to aspire to fulfil their true potential."

"afPE remains committed to the national curriculum PE, programme of study content for swimming outcomes. Steve Parry and I launched the following pledge at the recent Swim Summit:

‘I pledge to do all I can to ensure children are taught swimming and water safety at primary school.’

Please help us deliver on this commitment; we strongly believe that it must be a key consideration for all schools."

Which ever of the five key indicators you may focus on, afPE will provide you with all the support you may need. Whatever it is that you want, whether it is bespoke advice and support, health and safety, professional learning or pedagogical up-skilling, afPE has some of the best professionals in the sector that will ensure you are given every opportunity to achieve and hit every target that is set.

We hope that you will embrace the changes and value the additional funding and revised timeline to report on the impact.
