Rugby League World Cup 2021 (RLWC2021) has created a series of education resources for primary and secondary school children to educate on the game of Rugby League, with the ultimate goal of encouraging participation and generating excitement ahead of RLWC2021.

To capture the imagination of the next generation, schools across the country can download a free RLWC2021 education pack, which includes lesson plans, fixtures templates, certificates and video messages from RLWC2021 ambassadors to help inspire pupils. Phase two of the programme will kick off in summer 2020 with the addition of a cross-circular resource.

The resource has been carefully tailored to appeal to either primary or secondary school students – consisting of a 6-week coaching plan, culminating in a tag Rugby League or Rugby League 9s game. To encourage positive engagement, printable certificates are available to reward players’ behaviour, attitude, skill and participation. Teachers will be able to structure the programme with the help of a festival guide and fixtures list; providing students and teachers with guidance to help schools run their own InspiredBy RLWC2021 Rugby League festival.

To motivate students further, the resource includes video messages from the RLWC2021 ambassadors; ex Leeds Rhinos and England legend Kevin Sinfield, current England and St Helens star Jodie Cunningham and England and Leeds Rhinos wheelchair captain James Simpson.

Jon Dutton, Chief Executive of RLWC2021, said:

We want to support and inspire the next generation of Rugby League players in every way we can, and education is key to this. Giving students access to education initiatives and programmes such as our RLWC2021 school resources are key to nurturing and shaping talent across the UK.”

“There will be extensive initiatives taking place over the next two years to ensure Rugby League World Cup 2021 provides local communities with as many opportunities as possible to be part of the biggest and best World Cup, and this is a great example of that.”

The Rugby League World Cup 2021 will kick off on 23rd October 2021, with the men’s, women’s and wheelchair competitions taking place simultaneously, under one tournament banner for the first time.
