The Association for Physical Education (afPE) is inviting applications, from members and non-members, to join the Board of Trustees from July 2020. Trustees roles are voluntary, with travel expenses for meetings and events reimbursed.

afPE is a charitable company, a membership organisation and the subject association for physical education in the United Kingdom. Our vision is for physical education to be at the heart of school life. We strive towards this by promoting and maintaining high standards and safe practice in physical education, school sport and physical activity.

The Board of Trustees is responsible for the continued development of the Association. This involves determining strategy, policies and the ongoing vision for the organisation as well as securing financial investment and ensuring all legal and contractual obligations are met.

Board meetings are held quarterly and meetings last approximately five hours including a working lunch. Remote dial-in is an option. The Board is a combination of members of the Association who work within the physical education, sport and physical activity sector and non-members who provide a range of professional experience.

Tenure of post is usually for three years which may be followed by further three year periods. Co-option for one year initially may be considered in particular circumstances.

At this time, expertise is sought in any of the following areas:

  • Corporate governance, legal and company law
  • HR and employment law
  • Finance including compliance with the Charities Commission
  • Marketing & public relations
  • Organisational growth, brand development and financial diversification
  • Inclusion
  • Risk management
  • Digital strategy
  • Senior sector experience in physical education, school sport and physical activity

If you feel you have the required skills, attributes and capacity to contribute to the continued growth of the organisation, please return a copy of your CV along with a covering letter detailing your suitability to the role and needs of the Board to Simon Leach, afPE Membership and Communications Manager, at Simon.Leach@afpe.org.uk by 12.00pm on Tuesday 31 March 2020.
