afPE Appoint New Chair - Prof. Jeanne Keay

The Association for Physical Education (afPE) is delighted to announce its new Chair, Professor Jeanne Keay. Professor Keay is Pro Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement) at Leeds Beckett University. Jeanne returned to Leeds from the University of the West of Scotland where she held the post of Vice-Principal and PVC (International). Jeanne previously enjoyed a career as a PE teacher in secondary schools until 2002 and subsequently was Dean of Education at the University of Roehampton, London and worked for the Higher Education Academy, developing their international strategy. She continues to conduct research into physical education especially for primary aged pupils.

Professor Jeanne Keay  said:

“I am really looking forward to joining the afPE Board again and working to progress the great work of the association in supporting and developing its members.’’

“On behalf of the staff we are extremely pleased that Jeanne has accepted the role of Chair of afPE. Following the most challenging of circumstances, it is critical that afPE continues to lobby for PE to be at the front and centre of every school’s curriculum, led by a highly skilled work force so that all children and young person can thrive. Jeanne is highly skilled and we are extremely pleased that she will be at the help to steer a course to achieve the Task Force recommendations and create a legacy through PE, sport and physical activity.’’

Physical education’s potential contribution to the wellbeing of young people into adulthood and beyond has rarely been more needed, and I and Board colleagues firmly believe Jeanne’s skills, expertise and experience will allow the organisation to shape and deliver a post-pandemic strategy which sees that potential further realised.”
