Professor Patricia A. Shenton OBE

It is with great sadness that we report the sudden and unexpected death of Pat Shenton OBE on Saturday July 17, 2021, aged 76.

Pat was appointed to the Physical Education Staff at I.M. Marsh College in 1976 and was a popular lecturer with colleagues and students. Pat was a born leader and was soon demonstrating her skills of strategic leadership along with research and scholarly activity. One of her great skills was her understanding of the politics of the education system which she used to place I.M. Marsh at the forefront of teacher education during the turbulent changes the Government of the day was imposing.

Pat was also outward looking, and through her innovative ideas and vision she became known nationally, speaking and presenting at conferences, chairing several national committees and steering groups on behalf of national agencies.

Prior to her death Pat was in the process of writing a history of the I.M. Marsh College of PE with me. This will be finished and will be part of the enormous legacy she leaves.

Written by Professor Sheila Wigmore.
