Quotations: Those who work in physical education know how important it is to ensure that all children and young people learn to move and move to learn. It is not just about playing sport, but an area from cradle to grave that should be a priority. If children do not play, learn how to move, and through physical education develop their physical, social, emotional and cognitive wellbeing, research shows we pay the price as we move into adulthood. It is important that those who teach physical education are respected, supported and are given time to develop their career. afPE and SLQ have seen the impact of accredited CPD and we believe that by creating the Institute, it will make a difference not only to the children and young people but to the workforce.
Sue Wilkinson MBE, Chief Executive Officer, Association for Physical Education We are delighted to be working in partnership to establish the Professional Institute for Accredited Physical Education. Having worked with Sue and the team at afPE for several years to deliver the Level 5/6, and more recently launching the Level 4 qualification, their unwavering commitment to the PE workforce and its role in improving the wellbeing of children and young people is a natural fit with our own values and ambitions. We truly believe that a nationally recognised accredited pathway can support a competent and confident PE workforce, drive whole school improvement, and raise the status of PE to the profile we both believe it should have.
Richard Norman,Chief Executive,SLQ The Level 4,5 and 6 courses in Primary PE Specialism have primarily enabled us to address a skills gap in the education system across Yorkshire. While significantly improving the confidence and competence of hundreds of teaching staff across the region, we have also seen the positive impact the courses have made on activity levels in schools and improved attitudes of staff and young people towards PE and sport. Yorkshire Sport Foundation welcomes the additional tier of recognition and credibility that the inception of the Professional Institute for Accredited Physical Education will bring to these courses and others we plan to deliver in the future.
Dan Wilson, Director of Development, Yorkshire Sport Foundation With raised educational and societal appreciation of physical learning upon mental and emotional health, as well as the associated benefits upon moral, social, cultural, spiritual and cognitive development, there has never been a greater need to ensure that the workforce of today and for tomorrow is effectively supported with premier facilitation of Professional Learning Development attached to this transformative ‘whole child’ curricular area. Many delegates will attest to the marked positive impact that such qualifications asLevel 4 and 5 have provided.
Giles Platt, Regional Primary Schools PE & PSHE Advisor, London & SE Primary PE, Health & Wellbeing Development Association The Level 5 & 6 in Primary PE course has been absolutely crucial to my professional development during my time in education.Upon completion of the training I can say without exception, I was in a much stronger position professionally within my specialist area. Building upon each module, I was able to develop my understanding with regards to articulating the intent, implementation and proposed impact of our curriculum design. In terms of subject leadership, I have been able to develop a strong understanding of how best to invest and report on the impact of the Primary PE & sport premium funding as well as significantly improve our wider PESSPA offer within school. Within my current setting at The Academy St James Church School, it is clear that our senior leaders recognise the importance and impact of providing dedicated, quality assured and subject specific training. The afPE Level 5 & 6 Primary PE course would most definitely be an example of this and without doubt, was significant reason behind my appointment. As an educator, having access to this high calibre accredited CPD has been instrumental in the success of my last three employed roles as a PE subject specialist. This can be measured both in terms of improved standards within taught curriculum PE, as well as prioritising subject leadership and recognitionwithin several Ofsted inspection reports.
