18/01/22 Following the launch of the afPE Taskforce recommendations, afPE reviewed its strategy to ensure that it was in a position to implement the actions to achieve a highly skilled workforce with PE front and central in all schools. One of the actions was to position the support and professional development for the PESSPA workforce. In December 2021 afPE invited SLQ to partner with us to launch the Professional Institute for Accredited Physical Education. The institute is a national, quality assured and respected umbrella organisation that leads and creates accredited subject specific professional development. This has required a review of all afPE qualifications to ensure that they are future proofed, including the Level 2 and 3 PE qualifications. From February 2022, afPE will be launching an updated offer that will be part of an accredited pathway for professional development within Physical Education. This will allow professional development provider to work with SLQ to offer all of afPE’s professional development qualifications in the future. Is there another course that afPE will develop and endorse that centres can deliver? The Level 2 and 3 qualifications will still be available through SLQ and will be revised to ensure that they meet delegates’ needs. These will be afPE endorsed qualifications and afPE would suggest that the provider delivers the revised versions through SLQ. If there is another course, how do we go about being a training provider for this course? Please contact SLQ at contact@sportsleaders.org to get information on how to become a provider of the revised qualifications. Will there be an overlap where both courses can still be delivered? Any courses that are already registered with 1st4Sport should be continued. afPE is recommending that any new courses (from 1st February 2022) are registered, delivered and certificated through SLQ.
