24/05/2022 The Education Resources Awards (ERA) were created to highlight the quality and diversity of the education sector, recognised by the teaching profession as the benchmark of excellence and seen as a driver that encourages the raising of educational services and product standards throughout the sector. One of the 2022 winners was an afPE Business Associate Member, a physical education resource supplier called Action Mats. Their Action Packed set won in the category ‘Best Primary Resource’ (non-ICT) and was the only physical education resource to win in any category. Action Mats resources are sets of physically interactive pictorial mats and lesson plans, that physically and mentally empower children because they are so simple to understand and interact with. Physical activity levels in children are known to have dropped substantially since Covid struck and since lockdowns were introduced. Another casualty of Covid and lockdowns was social skills, the skills of interaction, play, collaboration, and cooperation. Children needed to re-establish friendships and learn to play with each other again. Action Mats resources were judged to succeed in targeting and promoting all those things, getting children moving, working, and playing together in a wholly positive way. afPE CEO, Sue Wilkinson MBE, who was at the awards, congratulated Action Mats designer and founder Jonathan Bhowmick, for winning the award as a result of their fantastic range of products.
