Workshop Session 1 (10:15-11:05)

In this workshop, Enrich Education will showcase practical examples of how schools can effectively integrate outdoor and adventurous activities (OAA) into their PE curriculum. Ofsted’s recent report on PE, "Levelling the Playing Field: The Physical Education Subject Report," highlighted that OAA is often either not taught effectively or neglected altogether, with staff lacking the competence and confidence to teach this component of PE.

We will share resources and strategies to improve this area of PE in your school and explore ways to help colleagues feel more confident in delivering OAA. The session will also cover innovative methods to ensure all students achieve 30 active minutes of physical activity daily. Additionally, we’ll demonstrate how cross-curricular outdoor learning can boost physical activity while enhancing academic learning across the curriculum. As the sole education partner of The International Orienteering Federation (IOF) and the winner of the "Best Primary Resource Award" at the 2023 Education Resources Awards, Enrich Education will provide all workshop attendees with a pack of our award-winning resources for use in their schools.

Building on the powerful keynote by Dr. Mike Jess and Prof. Jeanne Keay at the last afPE conference, this workshop dives deeper into the exciting Physical Education is for Life (PEL) initiative. A collaborative project between the University of Edinburgh, Leeds Beckett University, and Canterbury Christ Church University, PEL argues that PE should be the 'connective catalyst' that lays the groundwork for lifelong physical activity for all children and young people.

In this interactive session, you’ll be introduced to the PEL Enactment Framework, designed to help teachers, schools, and policy makers drive real change in PE programmes. After revisiting the PEL vision, you will actively explore Phase 1 of the framework—Taking School Context Seriously—to understand how to tailor PE to your school’s unique needs.

This is your chance to be part of a movement that transforms PE from a subject into a lifelong, meaningful experience for every child. Don’t miss out on learning practical tools that can reshape PE in your school and beyond!

Discover how your school can achieve the prestigious afPE Quality Mark in this informative workshop! The award is a powerful way to showcase the strength and quality of your Physical Education, School Sport, and Physical Activity (PESSPA) provision. By earning this recognition, you’ll not only elevate the profile of PE within your school but also gain national visibility, highlighting the outstanding work you do every day.

This workshop will guide you through the entire application process, from completing the form to preparing for the school visit by afPE’s Validation Team. We’ll delve into how to reflect on your PESSPA programme, assessing its impact on pupil progress and identifying strategies to enhance outcomes. You’ll also learn how to effectively present your school’s achievements using evidence-based research. This is your chance to take your PE programme to the next level and receive recognition for your dedication to physical education. Don't miss out!

We know how busy teachers are and understand the desire to improve inclusive practices in PE. That’s why this session introduces a practical, easy-to-use resource designed to help you enhance inclusion for disabled students, often within mainstream settings. Whether you're looking for quick ideas or more structured support, this guide offers strategies that you can immediately implement in your lessons.

In this session, we’ll walk you through the resource, which references the National Curriculum activity areas (DfE, 2013) and provides specific actions for both teachers and teaching assistants to ensure all pupils are included. You’ll discover what you can do before, during, and after lessons to facilitate smooth integration and improve the experience for every child.

The guide is based on the Inclusion Spectrum and introduces the Inclusive Planning Process, empowering Early-Career Teachers (ECT) to plan and reflect on inclusion from day one. Join us to learn how this resource can help you create a more inclusive, engaging PE environment with minimal time and effort!
