6 Core Reasons to Become a Member

afPE's comprehensive cover includes:

• Combined Liability insurance – Protects all Personal Members if they are held responsible for causing an injury to someone else or damage to someone’s property

• Personal Accident insurance – Provides benefits to all Personal Members if they are injured whilst undertaking the recognised/authorised activities of the Association

• Legal Helpline – Gives all Personal Members access to a free confidential 24 hour a day legal helpline to advise on a number of issues such as personal and commercial legal advice

2025/2026 Insurance Options

The options for afPE members are as follows:

Option 1 - included as standard within the membership fee for individual Personal Members

Option 2 - £60

This is bolt-on cover for members working for a single school/establishment/agency but who also undertake some additional freelance work up to the value of £5,000 total income per year

Option 3

This is bolt-on cover for members working on a totally freelance basis, such as consultants, with an annual turnover of:

• Up to £50,000 – £100 (Option 3a)

• Between £50,001 and £99,999 – £340 (Option 3b)

• Between £100,000 and £149,999 – £370 (Option 3c)

The costs outlined above (3a, 3b & 3c) are in addition to the individual membership fee, which is currently £155 for Personal Members.

The difference between Personal and School Membership is:

• Personal Members receive personal insurance cover and access to legal advice, School Members don’t

• Personal Members can upload a CV to promote themselves to the afPE membership base, School Members can’t

• School Members have between 3-7 logins for their staff to access the members’ area and afPE’s online community, Personal Members don’t

• School Members can upload unlimited PE and Sport related job advertisements onto afPE’s Career Centre, Personal Members can’t

• School Members can benefit from a £150 discount on any application/re-application for the afPE Quality Mark, Personal Members can’t

The number of accounts/logins that schools receive as part of their membership package with afPE depends on whether you are primary or secondary:

• Primary - 3 sub-accounts

• Secondary - 7 sub-accounts

What is included within each account/login?

• A dedicated profile page (which can be set to private or openly available to all afPE members to view)

• About Me page

• Ability to upload photos and files to your page, create bookmarks and maintain a personal blog

• Join special interest groups (SIG) that you wish to engage with and contribute to forums that exist for each SIG

• Select what types of news content you want to consume

• Ability to message other members (if you want to make your profile visible to other afPE members) and maintain connections, building your own PE network to share ideas, best practice and collaborate with likeminded ‘People’

afPE’s website utilises the Recite Me cloud-based technology toolbar which makes our website digitally inclusive by allowing you to customise your content so that you can consume it in ways that work best for you!

Benefits of the accessibility toolbar include:

• Play Audio: The software has the capability to read out aloud the content of our website, in hundreds of different languages

• Text Options: Users can increase or decrease the size and colour of the font, and also the font itself

• Dictionary, Translation & Magnifier: There's a built in English dictionary, the ability to translate text into a different language and a magnifying glass to magnify text on your screen

• Plain Text Mode, Margins & Audio Download: Ability to remove images and view in plain text mode, change the text dimensions by narrowing the width of the text column and download text as an audio file

Membership Contract

• Membership costs are subject to change on an annual basis

• When submitting an application for membership or membership renewal whether online or by some other means, you will be required to accept these terms and conditions. Our acceptance of your application which will create a legally binding contract between you and the Association for Physical Education incorporating these terms and conditions

• Your 365 day Membership Period will start once payment has been received and verified

• Your membership will be due for renewal at the end of the 365 day Membership Period and a renewal notice with invoice will be issued one calendar month prior to the end of the Membership Period

• Non-payment of invoice will result in lapse in membership after 30 calendar days of invoice date

Cancellation and Refunds

• We will assume that you do not wish to renew your membership if payment is not received by the due date (our terms are 30 days)

• Membership (and insurance) fees are not refundable on cancellation

No, our annual membership does not automatically renew. We will contact members a month prior to renewal and will issue an invoice. Should you wish to go ahead with the renewal, simply process the payment or let us know if you do not want to go ahead, and we will cancel the subscription for you.

Yes, afPE offers generous discounted rates for Multi-Academy Trust cluster memberships (minimum 5 schools), please see the pricings below:

• Primary School - £104 per school

• Secondary School - £160 per school

• 50+ total schools - £100 per school

Should you wish to proceed, then all we would need to do is be sent a completed spreadsheet including all of the different schools’ details and we can generate a single invoice to cover all of the subscriptions. If a school is already a member, we can provide them a pro-rata refund for the remainder of their term of membership. This helps us ensure all schools have the same membership dates.
