The Association for Physical Education provides a range of cover through sports specialist insurance brokers Perkins Slade Limited to cover all UK affiliated members; i.e.
Operative Time - Any physical activity within the curriculum and extended school programme recognised by the Association for Physical Education – see exclusions below. If in any doubt about a particular activity please contact afPE directly.
Geographical Limits – Working within the UK or for a British School abroad. For any other location contact afpe
Scope of Cover
1. Civil Liability Cover - Royal and Sun Alliance 50%( RTT242194) InsureSport Mutual 50%
This covers Legal Liability for damages and legal costs arising out of third party loss, injury or damage, in connection with the Activities described and notified to the Insurers during the Period of cover. Cover includes Breach of Professional Duty, damage to leased and rented premises, member to member liability, Indemnity to Principals and liability arising out of goods sold or supplied, including refreshments.
The main features of the policy are:
Public Liability: Accidental bodily injury to third parties and/or damage to third party property arising out of the Insured Activities Products Liability: Accidental bodily injury to third parties and/or damage to third party property arising out of any goods sold or supplied by the Insured
Professional Indemnity: Loss, financial or otherwise, arising out of Errors and Omissions e.g. bad advice or failure to act
Libel and Slander: Includes defamation, which is vital in relation to the consequences of allegations of abuse There is no age limit and no excess applies.
Cover does not apply to:
(i) Liability arising out of the ownership, possession or use of motor vehicles, aircraft and powered water borne craft. (ii) Equestrian risks and rugby (except Touch & Tag rugby) (iii) Liability for bodily injury or illness to any person employed by the member (iv) Property in the custody or control of the member other than leased or rented premises as defined above. (v) Deliberate acts (vi) The person accused of abuse/alleged to be the abuser A complete list of exclusions can be found in the policy wording
Any incident that may give rise to a claim in the future must be communicated to the Association for Physical Education’s Health & Safety Officer and to Perkins Slade immediately to comply with policy conditions. At no point should members admit liability or make any promise to pay.
N.B. Any claim arising out of advice, tuition or coaching made subsequent to the period of insurance as a result of circumstances occurring during the period is admissible if the member has retired from or ceased to participate in the Association’s activity.
2. Personal Accident Insurance –Insurer: ACE Insurance (51UK492540)
The benefits are payable if during the period of insurance the insured person suffers accidental bodily injury resulting directly and independently of any other cause within 2 years in death, loss or disablement. Cover includes accidental damage or loss of teeth, hospitalisation, convalescence and broken bones.

3. Legal Advice
All members get access to a free legal help line that can be accessed 24 hours a day. The service is provided by DAS and separate cards will be issued to members providing details of the contact telephone number.

The options for membership for 2008 – 2009 are as follows:
OPTION 1 - Premium – included in the membership fee for Full and Honoured Members
OPTION 1a – Premium £30.00 This is for all adults supporting learning (ASLs) and students based on self assessment of status. If you wish to take out insurance under this option, please contact Head Office for the relevant self assessment forms.
OPTION 2 - Premium - £50.00 Members working for a single agency outlined in Option 1 but who also undertake some additional freelance work up to the value of £1500 per year
OPTION 3 - Premiums (see below) Members working on a totally freelance basis such as consultants with turnover of:
• up to £50,000 premium £90.00 • between £50,001 and £99,999 premium £290.00 • between £100,000 and £149,999 premium £325.00
