About the Professional Development Programme:
The Professional Development Programme was one of ten work strands within the Physical Education and Sport Strategy for Young People (PESSYP). The work strand supported the delivery of the five hour offer through enhancing the quality of opportunities through targeted work based on the School Sport Survey and inspection finding evidence form. The programme was managed by a Consortium since 2003, consisting of the Association for Physical Education, sports coach UK and the Youth Sport Trust.
The work strand aimed to improve the quality of teaching and learning in Physical Education and school sport through a coordinated national professional development programme for teachers and adults supporting learning (ASL) in a school setting.
The implementation of the programme took place through established Local Delivery Agencies (LDAs). LDAs were partnerships of key people in a specific area, who held a vested interest in the development and delivery of high quality physical education and sport professional development for teachers, adults supporting learning working in a school setting.
