afPE Safe Practice Posters
afPE, funded by Child Safety Education Coalition (CSEC), have developed and produced materials to support pupil safety education within the context of physical activity. Three 'safety posters' were developed following a workshop with a group of young people from Y7 to Y9 (11-14) at Tewkesbury School, Gloucestershire. After discussing key safety messages, the students made it clear which messages held meaning for them. From this they selected the most popular. These tended to be the ones where they could take some responsibility. Once the messages had been decided upon, the students agreed on the style of posters, graphics and words, which they felt would have the most impact with this age group. From this work the three posters were created, viewed, and approved by the students. Aimed at 11-14 year olds, schools can use these posters around the physical education and sport facilities as a reminder of the students’ responsibility to consider health and safety issues. Staff, can also make use of the posters to cover key elements of teaching about safe practice in physical education and sport. The 3 key messages illustrated in the posters are: 1.
