Partnership Working

Partnership Working

There are many definitions of partnership but a generally accepted definition is:

“two or more agencies coming together to achieve a common goal” - (Audit Commission ‘A Fruitful Partnership’ published in November 1998).

Working in partnership is essential if we are to achieve a common goal to ensure all young people receive a high quality PE and school sport experience. With our partners we will provide a high quality service for the PESS profession and the afPE membership.

afPE welcomes working in partnership to achieve the aims of the association:

  • The Association for Physical Education will inspire and support physical education professionals to enable all children to develop into confident, responsible and successful individuals in and through the physical context. This will be achieved by:
  • Providing professional leadership through advocacy, advice and support for effective learning, teaching and coaching
  • Delivering effective and sustainable professional development for all the  physical education workforce
  • Providing professional, sustainable services for members and partners

To ensure that physical education is innovative and inspires further involvement in physical activity, it needs to be delivered by physical educators who: have a good knowledge of the learners;

  • Involve all learners in beneficial, positive learning experiences
  • Are committed to the health, personal wellbeing and achievement of all learners
  • Can create safe and motivating learning environments
  • Are able to enhance learning in a planned, progressive manner
  • Recognise, develop and reward learners’ progress and attainment

We are a can do organisation and we have an enviable track record in working with partners and key stakeholders in a variety of contexts.

Do you share afPE’s vision and commitment to physical education and school sport?

If so, there are a range of opportunities you can support.  We are looking for passionate individuals and companies who share our vision and want to play a role in making it happen.

Would you want to support one of our four key areas?

 •        afPE’s flagship publication ‘SAFE Practice’

  •        afPE’s National PE Conference

  •        Regional and/or national professional developments

  •        The National Curriculum professional development roll out

Or are you interested in supporting a region, Home Country or a national Initiative?

For further information please click HERE or alternatively, if you would like to discuss any of the above or any other future partnerships we would like to hear from you.

England Athletics

England Athletics offers two exciting courses that are aimed at qualified and trainee teachers and those supporting the management and delivery of high quality sport and physical education in schools.

The Primary Course (Certificate in Teaching Primary Athletics) highlights safe and inclusive teaching methodology, which initially focuses on developing competency in the fundamental movement skills that underpin athleticism, before examining how to apply these skills to running, jumping and throwing events. The additional programmes and resources available to support delivery, measurement and assessment are signposted, and the inclusion of all children and the first steps into competition are highlighted.

The secondary course (Certificate in Teaching Secondary Athletics) builds upon what is presented in the Primary resource. It focuses upon the ongoing acquisition and further development of the fundamental movement skills that underpin athleticism. It highlights progressions for students of all abilities, presenting clear technical models and safe and inclusive teaching methodologies. The additional programmes and resources available to support delivery, measurement and assessment, citizenship and problem solving are signposted and inclusion of all pupils and ongoing steps into competition are highlighted.

Both courses are underpinned by the Aviva Elevating Athletics resources designed to place running, jumping and throwing at the heart of school physical education and to support teachers in delivering athletic activity in an inclusive, exciting and engaging manner.  It has been written by physical education experts with extensive experience of teaching and coaching athletics at school, club and international level.
