"Back to our roots - Empowering professionals, maximising impact"
Heythrop Park, Oxfordshire - 4th & 5th July 2012
There is a clear steer that teachers and other support colleagues should be inspirational in delivering a world class curriculum. We therefore need to be creative and innovative to inspire all young people.
This is the conference where you will be able to access cutting edge developments, innovative thinking, developmental resources and discussion. The comprehensive conference programme has been designed to support you in your challenging roles.
In recognising your limited time and resources, this year, conference spans two full days of inspirational keynotes and interactive workshops and offers reduced fees.
afPE Chair - Eileen Marchant on why you should attend the afPE National Conference
In my role as Chair of the Association I have attended a significant number of conferences right across the country both as a delegate, facilitator and speaker. All have provided good professional learning opportunities but without doubt I know that the afPE National Conference is the crème de la crème and one which should not be missed.
It not only provides excellent keynotes, workshops and exhibition but it also draws a wide range of delegates with endless networking opportunities. I know that budgets are limited but compare the cost of this conference with others and you will realise it is extremely good value for money; don’t hesitate and book your place now
Inspiring Keynote Speakers
Tim Loughton MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Children and Families
Tim Loughton was first elected to Parliament on 1st May 1997 for the new West Sussex constituency of East Worthing and Shoreham.
After a period as PPS to Shadow Chancellor Francis Maude, Tim was promoted to the front bench environment team in February 2000 with responsibility for regeneration, the regions and housing. In September 2001 he was made Shadow Health Minister with mental health, social services and children's health and social care as part of his brief. In June 2003 he was made Shadow Minister for Children.
Tim's departmental portfolio includes safeguarding and child protection, social work, children in care and adoption, youth, families with multiple problems, early intervention, and family law.
Paul Dix - Outstanding Discipline in Physical Education
Paul Dix is a leading voice in Behaviour Management in the UK and internationally.
Paul is behaviour expert for the TES, Teachers TV, Teach Primary, Child Education Plus and Teach Nursery magazines. He is a leading writer for Pearson/Longman with five published titles, a member of the Restraint Accreditation Board advising the Minister for Justice and has presented evidence to the Education Select Committee on behaviour and discipline. He won a National Training Award in 2009 and a Royal Television Society Award in 2011. Paul is a trainer with an exceptional reputation for designing, implementing and sustaining change in behaviour.
Richard McCann - Inspiring Leaders for the Future
Richard McCann was brought up on the 'At Risk' register and also spent time with foster families and children's homes before being brought up by his estranged and often violent father who took away any self esteem that he had.
He experienced drink, drugs, deprivation as well as suicidal thoughts. He left school with no qualifications and after being kicked out of the army for psychological reasons he turned to drugs to ease his depression and finally found himself serving time in prison.
For most there was little hope for him but somehow Richard has become one of the busiest speakers in the UK. Hear how the intervention of one of Richard's teachers would influence and shape Richard's life in a way neither of them could have ever comprehended.

Yorkshire & Humber PE Conference Review & Video
The afPE Yorkshire and Humber Region held their annual conference (entitled: "Physical Education at the Heart of the New Curriculum") in Barnsley at the beginning of October and once again it proved to be an outstanding success with over sixty delegates in attendance.
In light of the current National Curriculum Review together with the revision of the Ofsted Framework for Inspection the theme of the conference was focused on putting physical education at the heart of the new curriculum.

Safe Practice in Physical Education and Sport
If you work in Physical Education and Sport, then afPE’s Safe Practice 2012 is your essential reference. This publication is a must for all schools as it is the only publication which contains up to date definitive guidance about safe practice in PE and Sport. The new edition will contain everything you need to know about health and safety in physical education and school sport. It has been completely updated and re-written, it's the one reference tool your educational establishment shouldn't be without. Due to popular demand the 2012 edition is being published in April which is earlier than initially planned.
The professional learning to support the publication will update colleagues in the profession on current and key risk management issues in physical education and sport and will offer them an understanding of:
-
Current hot topics and concerns about safe practice in physical education;
-
The format and application of the “triangle” model for risk assessment;
-
The purpose, structure, content and use of the new afPE publication “Safe Practice on Physical Education and Sport”
